Who are we?
We are a community for people working in the cultural sector in the North East, or connected to the North East.
We exist to campaign for freelancer rights, advocate for wellbeing, offer support, create or seek opportunities and to spotlight the often hidden labour of freelancers in our cultural sector.
We want the North East to be the best place to be a cultural worker. So we work in collaboration with people and organisations across the region to raise standards and expectations for cultural freelancers.
Membership of our network is free to everyone, but you can contribute to the community if you can, and want to.
We were founded by Leila d'Aronville and support over 3,000 cultural freelancers.
Freelancer Best Practice Checklist
A collaboration between North East Cultural Freelancers and the North East Culture Partnership
Cultural Freelancers in the North East are one of the greatest assets to our sector. We bring a diversity of experience and knowledge, plus huge insight into organisations. Which means we must work together to create structures where freelancers thrive.
So, we collaborated with the North East Culture Partnership to create the Freelancer Best Practice Checklist. This is a free online (and anonymous) tool for both organisations and freelancers, to:
audit your current practices
give you suggestions for improvements
help sector relationships grow
improve working conditions overall for cultural freelancers and cultural workers
